The 5th edition of the International Conference on Health Care Systems Engineering was held in Lisbon from September 14 to 16, 2023. It featured a rich set of sessions and fruitful discussions, all made possible by the active participation of an amazing group of participants. Looking ahead, anticipation is growing for the 2025 edition!
The Health Care Systems Engineering conference (https://www.mi.imati.cnr.it/ettore/HCSE/) is known to promote live discussions between academics and health practitioners: traditionally it takes place in a hospital, including a hospital tour, and each session is co-chaired by a health practitioner.
In this 2023 edition, the conference was organized as a partnership between the engineering and medical schools of the University of Lisbon, and took place within the environment of Centro Hospitalar Universitário Lisboa Norte (North Lisbon Hospital University Centre), the largest hospital centre in Portugal.
This conference provides a unique opportunity for scientists and health practitioners to discuss the use of management science and operations management techniques and methods to support decision-making in healthcare delivery systems.
Attendees were able to present and discuss new ideas, methods, and technologies for improving operations in healthcare organizations, improving decision processes regarding health technology, interventions, and policies’ adoption, as well as for enhancing the use of data to support clinical decision-making.
